Energy Pool Establishes Itself as a Strategic Player in Green Hydrogen in Morocco

Morocco Hydrogen Project
Energy Pool is consolidating its position within Morocco’s green hydrogen market. On 2 October 2025, its subsidiary Energy Pool Flexibility Maroc was selected as part of the Inno France–Maroc Green H₂ Tech call for projects, led by IRESEN and financed by the French Development Agency (AFD). This selection confirms Energy Pool’s strategic role in developing energy flexibility applied to hydrogen projects across Morocco.

An Outstanding Consortium Driving Hydrogen Development

Following a rigorous selection process carried out by Moroccan and international experts, only three innovative projects were chosen. Among them, the GREAT-H₂ project is led by a consortium comprising Energy Pool Flexibility Maroc, Energy Pool Développement (France), and Green Energy Park (the R&D subsidiary of OCP and UM6P).

The official signing ceremony took place during the World Power-to-X Summit 2025 in Marrakech, in the presence of H.E Christophe Lecourtier, French Ambassador to Morocco, underlining the strength of Franco-Moroccan cooperation within the energy sector.

GREAT-H₂: An Innovative Platform to Plan the Hydrogen Ecosystem

The GREAT-H₂ project aims to develop a GIS-based (Geographic Information System) platform dedicated to planning and integrating green hydrogen infrastructures on a national scale. The tool will analyse:
• solar and wind renewable energy potential,
• suitable areas for production and storage,
• territorial energy demand, and
• transport corridors and export opportunities.

By combining advanced models with geospatial data, the platform will guide investment decisions and accelerate the deployment of a hydrogen ecosystem aligned with national ambitions. The project also includes training and knowledge-transfer activities to foster the development of sustainable local expertise.

Energy Pool: A Key Player in Flexibility at the Heart of Hydrogen

Within this project, Energy Pool contributes its unique expertise in energy flexibility and multi-energy optimisation, which are essential to ensure:
• the stability of the electricity system amid large-scale renewable integration,
• the techno-economic optimisation of hydrogen value chains, and
• asset valorisation through flexibility mechanisms.

This selection reaffirms Energy Pool’s commitment to supporting the development of emerging sectors such as green hydrogen, by integrating high-performance flexibility solutions that deliver tangible value,” said Moulay Youssef Alaoui, President of Energy Pool Flexibility Maroc.

A Strategic Milestone for Energy Pool in Morocco

With GREAT-H₂, Energy Pool takes a significant step forward in its Moroccan strategy, contributing to the structuring of a competitive hydrogen sector that is both integrated into the electricity grid and open to export.

The project reinforces collaboration between Energy Pool’s Moroccan and French teams and demonstrates the company’s capacity to mobilise its technological expertise in large-scale projects.
