To Our Industrial and Tertiary Sector Partners – Thank You!
Thanks to these collective efforts, France successfully navigated the winter period without the feared widespread blackouts.
In 2022 alone, demand response volumes on the French wholesale markets reached a record 522 GWh — nearly ten times more than the previous year. Demand response has clearly proven itself as a key, reliable component of France’s energy sovereignty.
That said, further flexibility potential remains untapped in France. Currently, only 3.9 GW of flexibility is actually being utilised. As highlighted by ADEME, up to 10 GW (the equivalent of 10 nuclear power stations) could be activated during times of grid stress. There is clearly still room to go further in the months and years ahead.
It is now vital that public authorities support the development of medium- and long-term flexibility mechanisms, to best enable the energy transition and the accelerated integration of renewable energy sources. This effort must bring together all stakeholders — including, crucially, consumers, and especially industrial players, who are at the very heart of this ecosystem.
Alongside its partners, Energy Pool, the leading independent expert in electrical flexibility, stands ready to play its part and to contribute its full expertise in service of the French electricity system and its energy sovereignty.
